Purchasing Your First Small Chainsaw

Chainsaw manufacturers are using newer and lighter materials to build more powerful but durable machines. Inspired by an article in Arbor Age magazine, I ask you to consider six chainsaw brands for potential purchase. These chainsaw manufacturers were selected for their small model compactness and reviewed for use by arborists who work in an urban environment but need plenty of sawing power. These companies have smaller saws that would also be the perfect fit for a tree owner or occasional woodcutter or limb trimmer. An important first note: Reviewer Tom Bernosky, owner of Green Thumb Power and Equipment Corporation, suggests you always remember when buying any machine to buy from a dealer who can service. Your chances go up that you may hurt yourself and your business by buying something at a mart-type store. I am not saying you cant buy mail order, just make sure there is a repair shop in your area for service work. If the saw cant be serviced locally, your warranty isnt worth the paper its printed on.† 6 Great Companies That Make Small Chainsaws This list represents great picks from a broad array of small chainsaws who provide excellent dealer service. Obviously, there are many others you can choose that are not on this list. But these saws are arguably the best for all but the professional woodcutter as a first saw around the yard and woodlot. This review is based on company reliability, professional arborist popularity, and one chainsaw shop experts opinion. Any of these chainsaws manufacturers make great first small saws for purchase. All quotes are from Arbor Age. Ive tried to include links to lists of branded saws available for purchase on the Internet. Echo Small Chainsaws - It truly packed a wallop when it came time to do limb and trim work. - Available in 14 and 16 guide bars - Retail cost range: $190 to $300 US    Note: my personal favorite is the Echo CS 310. Obesity Better Policies For A Healthier America 2015

According to The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America 2015, a report from Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, obesity is defined as â€Å"an excessively high amount of body fat . . . in relation to lean body mass.† Body Mass Index (BMI), while not a diagnostic tool for children or measurement of body fat directly, is an indicator of body fatness and is used to assess whether a person is overweight or obese (as well as normal or underweight). BMI differs for children and adults, as well as males and females. It is measured by dividing a person’s weight by the square of height. Childhood obesity is defined when BMI is at or above 95th percentile. Generally, obesity is associated with higher energy intake and lower energy expenditure. Egger and Swinburn (1997) call it a â€Å"traditional† view and suggest the need in a paradigm shift; their ecological approach to the problem suggests that the impetus for ris ing obesity is the â€Å"increasingly obesogenic environment† (p. 478), which they define as â€Å"the sum of influences that the surroundings, opportunities, or conditions of life have on promoting obesity in individuals or populations,† rather than individual’s genetics or metabolic disorder (as cited in Lake and Townshend 2006:262). Hence, Egger and Swinburn (1997) see obesity as a normal physiological response to a pathological environment. Challenges of Emergency Logistics Management

Question: Disuss about the Challenges of Emergency Logistics Management. Answer: Introduction Logistics implies a detailed organization as well as implementation of operations of a company for managing and distribution of its products(Mentzer, 2008). Logistics help manage flow of products and service in points of consumption along with their origin for meeting demands of organization as well as that of customers. Logistics includes managing things physical as well as abstract in nature. Physical things include information flow, productions, handling materials, inventory control, packaging, warehousing, security, transportation and so on. Logistics management is an integral part of supply management which enables planning, implementing, controlling of various functionality from point of origin to meet customer demands. Often viewed as complex logistics system, it can however be analyzed, visualized by modeling and optimizing through simulation software. Logistics management requiring flow of goods from one point to another involves minimization of use of resource by optimizing capabilities(Waters, 2009). The scope of the current report deals with logistics management for the Middle East Division of Healthcare International. The company is based globally and is focused on pharmaceuticals and cosmetic product manufacturing. While managing the companys Regional Distribution Centre in Jebel Ali it is coordinated to receive pharmaceuticals from a factory in Rotterdam in Netherlands and cosmetics from factory based in New York, USA. All these units received from various factories are assimilated in the distribution center of Jebel Ali Regional Distribution Centre prior to supplying them across other suppliers in the Middle East(Dekker, 2013). With booming sales of the company globally, the factories supplying the Middle East zone has been functioning on full capacity. Hence, the company set up a new pharmaceutical factory in Sao Paulo located in Brazil and a cosmetic factory located in Bangalore in India. Though these factories were concentrated on their domestic markets, plans were designed such that these factories can supply to the Middle Eastern market provided the ineffectiveness of other two factories. Thus, the new factories Export Manager needs to realize the logistics issues involved in transporting of goods to Jebel Ali distribution center and other relevant issues of foreign markets. Further these factories do not have their own vehicles to transport goods and can only manage the same by leased vehicles. Thus, the various logistics issues, transportation time, inventory levels and other considerations are discussed in the report(Schnsleben, 2016). Logistics Middle East offers an attractive and a vast market of consumers. The amount of disposable income and consumer spending is high in the region(Van Wassenhove, 2012). Majority of the population in the Middle East have tremendous propensity to spend on quality pharmaceuticals as well as cosmetic items. This offers tremendous growth potential for the Healthcare Company in the report. With growing business amongst the Middle Eastern countries and opportunities for further expansion, the company has decided to further support its growing demands from other offshore companies. While it is relatively an attractive proposition to source materials to service markets of Middle East there might be remaining certain logistic challenges that needs be attained prior to initiation of operations. Some of the important challenges that needs to be met by the company to source materials from factories in Brazil and India are; Geographic Location: The Middle East countries occupy an invariably large land mass which is sparsely populated(Al-Eraqi, 2008). There is long distance that needs to be communicated from one point to another. Thus, the company needs to decide on a port location that is most suited and convenient such that they are able to reach the distribution center at lowest possible costs and relatively less time. Port in UAE is Jebel Ali which will be easily accessible by pharmaceutical factories in India and from Brazil. As companies derive significant value from their logistics any additional costs might impend on the product costs which might decrease competitiveness in the market for the company. Optimization of a port location has to be arrived at such that products can easily be transported to the distribution center and from there to other suppliers. Geographic Climate: Countries in the Middle East are characterized by extreme climatic conditions with high temperatures(Harrison, 2008). There is certain frequent rain burst in some locations as well. Most of the parts of the Middle East is covered with sand with no railway communications. High humidity is another factor prevailing in countries of Middle East. These factors make it further difficult for logistics operators to transport and use the products in their current state as extreme temperature of 50 degrees might have an effect on the physical and chemical properties of the products. Logistics managers needs to adhere to precautionary measures while packaging and storing their products prior to their transportation, as pharmaceuticals as well as cosmetics require certain degree of temperature to be maintained(Sheu, 2007). Population: Population in Middle East countries is highly scattered and this results in difficulty to cater to such population density. Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, KSA and UAE have relatively low population density. Such low density population entails difficulty to understand the appropriate location for the distribution center as well as locating ports for the same. Though the current company has a fixed distribution center from where products are further supplied, deciding on the port is a difficult task. Further increased heat increases vehicle maintenance costs due to wear and tear(Jacobs, 2010). The Export Manager in new factories needs to be briefed regarding such climatic conditions and advised to enter into a maintenance contract with the leased vehicle company. While transportation, the factories needs to further account for covered transport and maintaining a temperature control system in their vehicles. Transport Infrastructure: An important determining factor while transporting goods from factories to ports to distribution centers is the prevailing transport infrastructure within the countries. There are major roads that connect various parts of the countries especially the major cities. There are two major container terminals at Jeddah and Dammam(Salem Al-Eraqi, 2010). A dry container terminal is located at Riyadh. In case the company wants its products by air then there are International airports located in Jeddah, Riyadh as well as in Dammam. There is absence of inland waterways and interconnected railway that can connect various places in the Middle East. Transport infrastructure is important for the Regional Distribution Centre in Jebel Ali as the goods consolidated in Jebel Ali Distribution Centre will be distributed across various locations across Middle East. The distribution center will be responsible for proper distribution and supply of materials to stores across the cou ntries to meet customer demands. Customs clearing procedures: Ports and airports at Middle East are characterized by complex customs procedures. Antiquated customs techniques make it further difficult preventing flow of goods with ease. Further there are several border crossing at Jordan, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Yemen and Oman that entails difficulty in transporting of goods(Perry, 2007). The distribution center from Jebel Ali will supply goods to various centers across the countries hence; customs has an integral role to play. Miscellaneous Challenges: Obtaining visas for drivers, language barriers, absence of public transport, timing shifts further pose potential challenges to companies. The distribution center for company being located at Dubai, near Jebel Ali Port, as it is best that the company suggests Export Managers from the two new factories to ship their products at port located at Port Jebel Ali, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This port constitutes the worlds largest man-made commercial port and busiest in Middle East. The port is located at 35 kilometers southwest of Dubai and in the Persian Gulf region(Jacobs, 2007). This port is mostly used by USA and other countries as well. The port currently covers a million square meters of container yard. It can also include medium to long-term cargo storage, which will be beneficial for the company. It also accommodates for passenger vehicles and is located adjacent to Dubai dry-docks and Dubai Maritime City. In times of scarcity the company can easily use the added ports facility to store its cargo and then ship to distribution center in Port Jebel Ali according to convenience of requirements. Further, the Port offers connectivity to Dubais expressway system as well as Dubai International Airport Cargo Village(Hein, 2011). The port is located at 53 kilometers from Jebel Ali hence can offer easy connectivity as well. Transit Times and Inventory Levels The company has decided that it will avail Port Jebel Ali for incoming cargo from two new factories in Brazil and India. The below is a time schedule showing the time taken by ports in these individual locations that will be taken in order to transport the cargo to Port Jebel Ali as against time taken by previous two factories at Port Jebel Ali(Wang, 2012). Transit time by sea from current suppliers ports of export, Rotterdam and New York, to Jebel Ali port, compared to the ports for exporting from Brazil and India According to sea distances and transit time required to travel for cargo ships that transport pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products the below schedule has been derived. From the below mentioned table it can be noted that time taken to transit from Rotterdam port to Jebel Ali port is 66 hours whereas between New York to Jebel Ali Port is 25 days. In case the company selects Jebel Ali port to transit its products from new factories then it might be unprofitable for the company(Mangan, 2008). As the table depicts that the time taken to transit between Port Santos in Brazil and Port Mormugao in India to Jebel Ali ports. Hence, the company will not only lose out on number of days but also on its inventory costs in case it wants to select Jebel Ali Port for transiting products from new factories. Transit Time by Sea To Jebel Ali Port Ports Time Taken Rotterdam 16-33days New York 9-53 days Sao Paulo(Port of Santos) 29-48 days Bangalore(Mormugao Port) 13-31 days Table 1: Time Table for Sea Ports Communication Source : Author From the above table depicting transit time from various factory ports to ports is Middle East it is highly recommendable that the company focuses on Jebel Ali port for its previous two factories and also for its new factory set up. This will enable the company ease of transit and also fast delivery schedules that can impact the profitability of the company further. Reviewing the level of inventory holding in Jebel Ali of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics or otherwise The state of the current Inventory holding in Jebel Ali is for pharmaceuticals four weeks cover and for cosmetics 6 weeks cover(Rashid, 2009). The time taken in transit reflected from the above schedule shows that time taken for transit from new factories set up in Brazil and India to Port Jebel Ali will be significantly less. The items cannot be stored for prolonged periods of time as they will have an expiry date and will be perishable in nature. Hence the communication between Port Jebel Ali to distribution center in Jebel Ali is also comparatively low. Further, Port Jebel Ali contains inventory facility in case a company wants to keep its product in the store house. Thus, it will not be vital and critical to store inventory at the Jebel Ali port. But considering the free tax rates and better customs facility as Jebel Port is relatively new, the company might consider keeping its products at the Jebel Ali port facility. The port facilities and inventory systems at Port Jebel Ali i s significantly good and the company might at a later period consider keeping its inventory levels at Jebel Ali Port(Mathews, 2008). The volumes that the previous factories will ship are approximately 5 containers every week. Further, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic goods are normally shipped in 40ft containers with 50% dry, 50% reefer to maintain +18capacity. A small percentage of goods will be transported by air when there is a requirement for goods to be dispatched urgently. In its new factory setting also it will focus on same kind of volumes or larger such that it can cater to growing demands in the market. While the two new factories starts shipping products of higher or equal capacities then it will be enough to meet the growing demands of the Middle East locations. Transferring Manufacturing to the UAE MedicalCare International is considering transferring the manufacturing facilities to the UAE in 5 years time if the GCC market continues to expand. The detailed report analyzed on current logistical challenges faced in GCC countries are huge and poses major costs as well as threats for the company. In case the company can transfer its manufacturing facilities within the next five years to GCC countries(Shah, 2012). The following are some of the benefits that the company will enjoy; Population Growth : High number of young population contributes to a high demand for various products. Each of the state in the country is characterized by growing population structure which lets high demand for products such as cosmetics. Further pharmaceuticals have a high demand rate owing to the international levels of medical care in the country. The current company will benefit highly from increased demand in the country and will be able to expand its operations further. this also enables availability of cheap and easily labor(Reiche, 2010). High disposable Incomes: Majority of the population in GCC countries is characterized by oil and gas related economies. This contributes largely to the affluent population in the countries with large disposable incomes that accounts for the major demand drives. Hence, the company will greatly benefit by catering to such population and meeting their demands. Planned development goals: Countries in the GCC have focused and set their place in a planned diversified manner for development programs individually as well as collectively that can contribute to growth(Raouf, 2008). Such planned developmental features further add to the development and growth in the economy. In case the company decides on shifting manufacturing facility to GCC they will be able to avail latest railway connect and other roadways for transportation. Further major spending is being made in areas of technology infrastructure that can support logistics across countries. Low logistics costs: The Company incurs high amounts of costs for transiting its products from factories based at locations(Harry, 2007). In case the company was to base its operations at GCC countries it will incur relatively less costs in transiting of its products. Time delays in transiting through sea as well as by airways will also reduce that can led to high amounts of profitability for the company by less costs added to its products. Infrastructural Development: Infrastructural development across the GCC will have a spillover effect and will be a strong driver for growth and investment. Such infrastructural projects will be conducive in the current companys growth as well(Boughanmi, 208). Large hydrocarbons reserves: Each of GC countries contains large hydrocarbons surpluses that might act against global fluctuations. Thus, in case of global economic and financial recessions the company can expect itself to be outside of any effect due to the coherent structure prevailing in the country. Strong political stability and consensus: GCC countries enjoy a strong and inherent political stability as well as consensus that act as an attractive venue for investment driving growth(Sbeiti, 2010). Each of the GCC country have a stable political leader and low levels of bureaucratic indulgence in business which enables businesses to function smoothly and effectively. Stable economic fundamentals: GCC countries have low rates of inflation, strong and potential GDP growth rates, flourishing manufacturing and construction sector and so on. These economic fundamental contribute invariably to growth amongst companies present in the country(Al-Kandari, 2009). Conclusion The evaluations of logistics opportunities prevailing in GCC countries by utilization of various ports reflect the customized logistic solutions available. The scope of the current company which has decided to source from its factories based in Rotterdam, New York and Bangalore as well as Sao Paula reflects existing demands for the company products. There is immense prevailing opportunities amongst the GCC countries that can allow for growth and prosperity of the current company as well as of its products. The company at a stage later can significantly focus on moving its manufacturing facilities to GSS countries by lowering of costs in transit. This can help the company to further attain costs competitiveness and increase in profitability by value of its supply. The company can focus on meeting current demands by sea and air transport, it can purchase its own vehicle to subsidies costs further. While making its own manufacturing facility in GC country it will be able to cut costs an d increase employment at its manufacturing base. Hence, it will be able to create a positive impact on the economy of the country as well. Reference List Al-Eraqi, A.S., Mustafa, A., Khader, A.T. and Barros, C.P., 2008. Survey And Customer Relations Prime Designers and Clothe line

Question: Discuss about the Survey And Customer Relations Prime Designers and Clothe line. Answer: Workplace Health and Safety Report Prime Designers and Clothe line is an organization based at the heart of Paris. The specifications of the nature of its goods and services is best told by the quality of the luxury goods and outfits that are produced by the business. The business was founded in 2015 from an online platform but grew to establishing its own physical store by the end of the same year. Just like any other business enterprise, Prime Designers is filled with both economies and diseconomies of scale. Below are additional facts. In this business, health is an important factor to pay close attention to as only employees and clients that are at the best of their health can be able to maximize the productivity of the business. The first observation would therefore, be a situation where an employee is allergic to a certain fabric used in manufacturing special clothes (Kiesbye, 2011 p. 45_. Allergies such as skin rashes and coughing as well as itching as the worst. The second situation is when a client gets into contact with a fading outfit. Lastly, a circumstance of failure to meet the expectations of the client. Internally, the business is prone to a wide variety of risks such as fire. If by any chance fire manages to break out in this organization, the loss would be unimaginable considering the fact that there is the presence of paint that contains a concentrated amount of oil products that are extremely flammable. Also, the risk of theft of logo and originality of the goods and services of Prime Designers stand so high. Externally, clients are prone to the danger of getting cheaper but less quality outfits from the competitors of Prime Designers. In a whole new perspective, the differences that could occur to both internal and external clients as a result of lack of understanding, the best move forward would be stabling a common ground for all the parties involved in the argument. As a great leader, one is obliged to take no sides especially when the argument is still in progress. Additionally, all stakeholders like to be associated with the growth and development of the business creating the impression that both internal and external clients can finally come to an agreement so that they effectively participate in the general decision making of the business. Internal conflicts can be resolved through holding frequent organizational meetings that are aimed at giving voice to each and every member of the organization to raise his plight over a pressing matter (Kirkpatrick, 2015). For example, other than the international objectives that the business has to meet, it also has local prospects that are best handled with rookies. These contracts could include fast deals like designing wedding gowns for traditional marriages. Such a deal could cause a misunderstanding in the organization as two or more rookies struggle to bring to light the capabilities of their respective skills. Customer Survey feedback Surveys opt to be open ended in the sense that they give the respondent time and space to go way beyond their comfort zone. For example, what are some of the challenges faced by consumers of Prime Designers? Are there any health complications that can be avoided instead? Based on the current state of affairs, it is true to state that the fashion industry is flooded? If son, what are the potential recommendations? Methods of getting survey are more like methods of gathering data (Partridge, 2011 p. 45). On that effect, a survey app that is specifically meant for Designer outfits in Paris can be developed by Information Technology gurus and offered in the play store at reasonable prices. The benefit with such an app is that it provides real time customers expectations, opinions, tastes and preferences that keep on changing by the passage of time. In relation to a negative complaint that has been raised by a potential client, the best way to handle such issues is through one on one conversations. On that note, the first strategy will be the complainant can be summoned and the accused employee brought forth as well. The second move is that the manager will raise questions that both the client and the employee are obliged to answer genuinely so that the issue be solved best through amicable decisions. Ideally, the third and fourth strategy can be compensation of the client and the fourth will be a constant lesson to the employee not to afford similar mistakes in the future (Sunderland, 2013). Lastly, peace is established. The positive feedback of clients has the power of putting the business at an advantage point over others that produce similar or alternative goods and services. Once a client is satisfied, chances are that he or she may end up coming back for more or perhaps referring the business to other clients in the long run. Wrangler Jeans Advertisement Analysis free essay sample

From construction workers to high fashion models, jeans are or have been worn by practically every person that you may come across today in life. To match these people’s needs there is a plethora of ways in which jeans are styled and shaped. This variety is good for a person who has an assortment of styles and looks, but is not really good for your â€Å"average Joe† who is just looking for a pair that is comfortable, durable and suits them in a way that complements them. So with this notion where will this â€Å"average joe† find his pair of jeans? Well in todays day and age the the internet would be the first place to go, but why not just settle for a good ol’ magazine advertisement? Specifically speaking a Wrangler advertisement, which boldly states, â€Å"Nothing Beats Wrangler Comfort†, their two celebrity endorsements, along with the comparison of â€Å"other jeans† with their jeans. We will write a custom essay sample on Wrangler Jeans Advertisement Analysis or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I believe that Wrangler successfully advertised their jeans in such a way that is easy to decipher, gets straight to the point, being plain and simple simple, while still attracting attention to itself. Taking a first look at this advertisement there not that much going on with its simplistic look, but your attention is immediately directed to the bottom portion of the advertisement which is plastered in red, a commonly used color that advertisers use to catch one’s attention. In this section the first thing that you will most likely notice would be the large, bold, white statement, â€Å"Nothing Beats Wrangler Comfort†. The purpose of this statement is making a completely straightforward and bold claim that Wrangler’s jeans are the best of the best, while conveying the idea that their jeans are the most comfortable because of the way they made â€Å"comfort† the largest word in the slogan. Below the slogan there is a comparison between two kinds of jeans, one named â€Å"Other Jeans† and the next named â€Å"Wrangler†, compared in a table like structure with â€Å"vs† in between them. â€Å"Other Jeans† represent jeans made my companies besides Wrangler, here they are described asâ€Å"V-Pattern Pinches†. The reason for this is the v-shaped cut of the jeans tend to pinch and cause discomfort. While on the other hand â€Å"Wrangler† is described as â€Å"U-Shape Provides More Room†. This statement not only makes Wrangler’s competitor’s jeans look bad, but it reverts back to the slogan emphasising on comfort. This portion of the advertisement is lightly using the the technique of name calling to make the customer feel more negatively about other jeans, causing them to side with Wrangler jeans. Even though the bottom portion seem to be the place where most of your attention is directed do not neglect the to take notice of the top part. Here it shows what looks like to be two happy looking, average men, positioned next to each other, wearing plain clothing, in front of a red and white pickup truck, in pasture like area. Next to the men there are signatures implying that they are famous. Personally I did not recognize them at all, but football enthusiasts would know the one on the left is none other than Brett Favre, an American football player for formidably know for playing for the Green Bay Packers. Next to him NASCAR’s own, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Both spokesmen are from pretty from pretty demanding careers, one football and the other race car driving, so the last thing they need is an uncomfortable pair of jeans, once again going back to the main idea of comfort. Also they are using the testimonial appeal to endorse their product buy making the celebrities wear their clothing with convincing happy smiles to sell their product and appealing to a certain demographic, while using the plain folk appeal by dressing them humbly too look like your â€Å"average Joe†. As a girl this advertisement did interest me at all because it was lacking feminine qualities that I usually look for in an advertisement. Truthfully the chosen celebrities could not be identified by me without looking them up on the internet. So who was this advertisement made for? With white pigment of their skin, the country like background, and the pickup truck I can assume that this advertisement was created for an American, Caucasian, middle aged, male demographic, from the working class, who is most likely from the southern region of the United States that finds entertainment in watching things such as football and even NASCAR. Small deals can make or break an advertisement. Here in this advertisement it gives you the place where the jeans are available, Walmart. Now the customer does not have to venture far to find an outlet or boutique in a mall because it tells you an easy reliable place to go to. Also it shows you a website where you can find out more information about their u-shaped jeans at wrangler. com/ushape, next to it there is a Facebook sign that indicates there is a profile on there that you can find information on too. On the bottom half the slogan is not only large and bold but it has a rough texture too, making it seem more edgy or even manly. The difference between â€Å"Other Jeans† and â€Å"Wrangler† is made more obvious by bold white lines that show different shapes of the jeans, a V-shaped line for â€Å"Other Jeans† and a U-shaped line for â€Å"Wrangler†. Lastly in the background the pasture like area along with the pickup truck gives of a country feel to the advertisement, which can cross into patriotism, being that this an American company and that this kind of setting is associated with America. Even with the obvious stereotypes, cliche setting and arrangement Wrangler successfully executed their advertisement in such ways that the customer can feel relatable to these celebrities with their humble look and feel a sense of comfort with the relaxed setting. The colors used , red and white, brought attention to key points in the advertisement. Both celebrities that were chosen appeal to a specific, but large demographic which can also even be trendy in other ones. The language of the slogan, the comparison of the types of jeans and even the picture of the celebrities Dale and Brett ll tie into the advertisements main idea of comfort. When all the factors come into play it creates an ideal advertisement that your average American, male consumer is looking for .

NPV, PI, IRR, and Payback - Essay Example It is the rate that helps a firm in bringing the NPV equals to 0 by discounting few cash inflows and outflows further (Alessi, 2006). However, this method is not always to be relied on as the cash flow changes are often experienced by a firm. Another method of calculation of capital budgeting is the payback period. It tells the firm, the time span in which the firm can cover up for its cost if investment. However it does not take the real value of money over the years in account. Furthermore, it also does not help the firm in the amounts by which the shareholders wealth will increase and the cash inflows are not taken into account after the cost of investment has been covered. The Profitability Index (PI) of a firm the ration by which the firm can payoff to the investment that is done regarding a project. However, the evaluation of the NPV’s does not tell a firm of the IRR that each project holds within. A project can have a higher NPV, a smaller safety margin and a smaller IRR! IRR allows the firm in analyzing the cost of capital in comparison to the internal rate of return. However, if the projects cash flow moves from negative to positive every now and then, the firm will experience a number of IRRs making the evaluation of the project difficult and less understandable. Effect of Technology and Social Media on Conflict Jasmeen Lorna Laurence Sarvapriya Rajamanickam Tan Khang Le Wong Paik Yen Chow Jen Ni Joshua Low Wai Peng INTRODUCTION Interpersonal conflict occurs when an expressed struggle between two or more individuals who perceive incompatible goals, scare resources, and interference from others in achieving their goals. Interpersonal conflict may take place on love relationships, family relationships and friend relationships, also, in the workplace. Nowadays, social network will be one of the reasons that conflict arise especially Facebook. When talking about Facebook, almost everyone around you would know what it is and they do have an account of it. There is no doubt that Facebook have such a convenience function of access to each other easily. People use Facebook to keep up their relationships with friends and others who study, work and live around them. Also, it is to share stories with the people in your life with what you really want them to know. Besides that, people like to post some stuff and always accompanying with the mind that how many likes and comments they would gain on the post in the end. This action represents the satisfaction of agreement that they want to own from others. Through this ‘connect and share function’, there have the misuse of it too. People who misuse Facebook may turn the relationships into crisis between one and others. There is no doubt when the disagreement or dissatisfaction from others on what you have posted on Facebook will lead you to a psychological development; you will feel depressed, angry or frustrated. In order to reduce conflict with others, it depends on how you deal with it associated with what type of conflict style you are in. We have interviewed three people to discuss about the conflict that they have been experienced on Facebook and how they dealt with it. CONTENT Topical Themes A topical theme is the pattern of conflicts that analyses the common topics each interviewee has. The first interviewee, Jarvis had a friendship conflict with one of his classmates. Jarvis uses his victim’s Facebook account for his own jokes; writing a status that is very hurtful about the other person when they forgot to log out. Examples are ‘I am so fat’, ‘OMG my face is so ugly’ and etc. This messages or statuses can be seen by all the victim’s friends and families. It might even lead to punishment or suspension by the victim’s parents if they thought their son or daughter said that. His friends were constantly commenting and teasing him. This bad behaviour leads the other party very angry and unhappy. This attitude involves being self-centred, not caring how others might feel. In his revenge, the victim did the same to Jarvis’s Facebook account writing mean stuff about Jarvis. Both parties fought about the conflict which lead s to a bigger argument. However in the end, the conflict was sorted out by revealing the person who writes those statues in order to avoid any misunderstandings. Both parties understood how it feels to be embarrassed and never to repeat this behaviour again. The second interviewee is a middle aged man named John. John experienced a conflict between his romantic partners. Almost every relationships struggle to overcome trust issues. For married couples, Facebook has become a barrier overcoming trust issues. When some husbands refuse to reveal their account password, their wife would suspect his husband doing unfaithful things behind her back. Those include cheating, dating and ‘romantic conversations’ with other women. This overthinking behaviour will lead to misunderstandings between husbands and wives, in conclusion having a bad impact on their relationships. However for some people, privacy is very important in maintaining relationships. Personal privacy strengthens both parties, results in a more happy and satisfied relationships. For John, it was only a misunderstanding between him and his wife, everything was sorted out and they lived happily. The conflict that the third interviewee faced is similar to the first interviewee. Veronica was also embarrassed by a friend that posted a status using her account. Family members and friends believed the content of her status but it wasn’t true about her. After that, she sent her a private message asking her friend to delete it immediately. But her friends already saw everything, and that did not get her way. Before that her emotions were affected by how people tease and laughed at her, but after that she ignores all the comments and responses. Her friend was also very sorry on what she did; Veronica forgave her act and wish it would not happen again. Escalation of conflict Escalation of conflict is how a conflict develops, from small arguments that lead to bigger arguments. The escalation of conflict for interviewee one is moderate escalation, which move from small fights to slightly bigger arguments. This can be seen where both parties did the same thing to hurt each other. They end up fighting and it became an argument where friends and families are able to see on their Facebook walls. Mean words such as stupid, idiot causes anger and hatred between parties, results in a lengthy argument. From a tiny mistake, to a playful thought then to a huge problem; so before using something that does not belong to ourselves, we have to think of the possible consequences. The escalation of conflict for interviewee two and three is very neutral. There was neither argument nor fights, problems were solved. Emotional responses Facebook is a worldwide known social networking site that has numerous advantages and disadvantages. Through Facebook, one can face both good and bad conflict. By being exposed to conflicts via this medium, a person can gain knowledge on the new types of conflict faced and the ways to manage it wisely without hurting both parties. Emotions are encountered when a person’s feelings and senses are provoked by even the slightest act. When it becomes too personal, we respond differently as our mind and thought changes without us realizing it. This is when we have to learn to control our emotions when we are facing conflicts as the reaction we respond is vital in determining whether the conflict will escalate or dispute. According to all our interviewees, they faced similar types of issues in Facebook where the other parties posted fake status or even commented negatively to them who were the victims. This results in various emotions running through the victims’ mind and they were mad at the moment of the incident as all their friends started to be judgmental towards them without knowing the true stories behind it. All they did was remaining calm and not acting out immediately without thinking twice. The first interviewee managed his conflict by investigating the culprit in the first place. The second interviewee ignored the negative comment that was sent by his friend whereas; the third interviewee confronted the person through sending messages in Facebook to the offender. Our interviewees handled their emotions well during conflict because they realized they were not doing any mistakes and they were in the right track. They were not carried away by behaving hastily where it could escalate th e conflict even worse. Hence, we should learn working with our own emotions by understanding them and practice expressing ourselves in a more accurate mode as it leads to a better conflict resolution and conflict is one major issue that has no end to it where is a lifelong process for us to develop our mental state. Conclusion To sum up, the topical theme of the interviewees that we have been interviewed is mainly about teasing by friends or gets some negative/judgmental comments on Facebook. Sometimes conflict created unconsciously when someone unintentionally making a joke on somebody or commenting on somebody status. This is the main reason of conflict arises. How we going to solve a conflict when conflict occurs? It depends on what conflict systems you are in, for example, avoidant system, collaborative system, and aggressive system. According to all of the interviewees, they have the similarity of escalation of conflict which has neutral escalation of conflict. They just act calm and ignored the negative comments or reveal their true feeling calmly to their friends in private. They are more into avoidant system or collaborative system. Additionally, conflict may also affect our emotion feeling when it’s happen. Refer to what our interviewees said, they will feel crazy at first when someone attack them, then, they will keep calm and think wisely to solve the conflict. Lastly, the consequences will escalate or de-escalate which follow by how they solve it. DISCUSSION Public Nature Facebook is one of the listed companies across the global and it is actually a social network where you use to communicate with each other and to make new friends. But, due to its status as a social networking site, it is wide open and nothing is really private when it comes to social networking because it does not included the privacy that we need. It will somehow affect the relationship between humans when doing something bad such as posting status about people or jealousy towards someone who commented on the person you are close too and so on. From the first interviewee that we have interviewed, the conflict that he encounters is that he wrote status which is sometimes funny or dirty and not to forget using someone’s Facebook account to post unwanted things when they forget to log out. He added that this is a bad behaviour as people may think that the person actually posted a status or things that are related to them that is untrue and will certainly judge them. Eventually, the other person would also start posting status about the other guy who posted those unwanted stuff at his Facebook page and there is where both of them fight and it lead to an argument which can be visible on their Facebook walls. This may affect the friendship between the both parties and possibility of ruining the friendship is high. By resolving the conflict that is going on, he reveals the person who wrote the status using the other person’s Facebook. The 2nd interviewee had seen bad conflicts on Facebook. He mentioned that people like to do negative comment on something they are supporting it and tend to be very harsh and very rude in words when they do not agree on something. For instance, people post a status toward the person they don’t like just to make them feel down. But instead of that, they should meet up and solve in properly. And some of the people at Facebook may flame the person who is already led down in the status which leads to make use of other person status to critic others. Another conflict that involves the husband and wife is the trust issue that is create through Facebook. If husband refused to hand out his password to the wife, the wife will have thought that the husband maybe hiding something from her and it will lead to misunderstanding even though there is nothing wrong, and sometimes when it comes to the worse, it may lead to divorce cases which destroy the marriage relationship because of such small matter. The second interviewee also added saying that somehow, there is people that can strengthen their relationship but as for some of the people who do not know how to manage this kind of conflict; it will lead to a bad ending in the relationship. The 3rd interviewee also encounter conflict where it is something similar with the first interviewee where her friend posted a status about her which is untrue and it was embarrassing for her as everyone who saw it including her family believed in the status. It did impa ct her emotionally but she and friend sat down and talk about it and the friend feel sorry for doing so. Power Play The definition of power which is also applied to all from the physical to the psychics is where â€Å"the ability to create change against the opposition. There are two types of power play which is active or passive. The active power play takes place when we usually get what we want when we presume resistance from another party. Meanwhile on passive power play are the connections we use when we resist the wish of other people. There is two powers that plays in these exchange which is the high power and the low power, high power is mostly the dominant of the conversation in here which have the power to convince people, the force that pushes his or her speech. They can do much more comparing to the low power people as the low power people do not really have the force and authority to fight back which they are lack of self-esteem. So with this, those with high power are likely to conquer and take over. For the dominant side of the conversation, they are holding up with their relational power of communication skills. As mention previously about the three interviewees both have either encounter or seen before conversion in the Facebook was taken over by the high power people as they have the conversational skills, their persuasive ability to persuade others about the untrue stuff mention towards the other person. CONCLUSION For those people who are trying to manage their conflict on Facebook, it is advisable to meet the other party face to face. If they can’t do so, it is important to talk things out in private. By posting your arguments or dissatisfaction about a matter in public will only create more problems. Kindly explain to them what bothers you. Make sure you figure out the main problem or objective. Communication is crucial in solving a conflict. They should talk to the other person about the problem maturely instead of bashing each other on Facebook. They shouldn’t get carried away with momentary misunderstanding. We cannot run away from conflicts on Facebook but we could actually prevent from getting involved in it such as not adding or confirming any unknown friends request and do not upload obscene photos of yours because some people might use it to manipulate you or use it for unrighteous reasons. Since everyone can see whatever you posted on Facebook, you should not post harsh words or anything that will humiliate someone. You may not realise that such status or comment may have great impact to the other party. If you have posted something hurtful, be brave enough to apologize and never repeat it. In business it is common when people try to pull you down, negative comments can hurt us but it is important to ignore those words because it will only demotivate you. Also, when managing conflict, rather than being angry, you should keep calm and analyse the matter wisely before taking any actions. Listen to what the other party have to say and always learn to forgive. Sometimes you may have misunderstood about a matter which isn’t about you at all because we humans are so paranoid about everything. Believe it or not the â€Å"I† statements can actually help to solve conflict better because the other party will see your side of the story without feeling accused or victimized. Put yourself in their place so that you could understand their feelings and point of views. Don’t ruin a friendship or relationship for an unreasonable misunderstanding.

Fertility Drugs: Are they worth it? :: Pregnancy Reproduction Medical Essays

Fertility Drugs: Are they worth it? Over the past few years there seems to have been an increase in the amount of couples that have used fertility drugs and ended up having nine or more children. The couples' stories have been aired on the news, and when interviewed, many of the couples stated that they only wanted one child, but because one of the spouses was infertile, they were unable to get pregnant. At the advice of their doctor, the couple took fertility drugs, and the result was the rapid expansion of their family. The effectiveness of fertility drugs such as Clomiphene and Bromocriptine are overshadowed by their many, and often very harmful, side effects. Are infertility drugs worth the cost that possible side effects have? Causes and Solutions to Infertility Infertility affects 7.1 percent, or 2.8 million couples, of married people in the United States. It is difficult to assess the overall percentage of infertility that exists in the United States, as many individuals do not know that they are infertile until they attempt to have children. In addition, information on the web is confined to addressing infertility among married couples, thus this web paper discusses studies conducted among married couples. Less than a third of married couples seek help from their doctors, even though almost 90 percent of all cases of infertility have one or more causes than can be treated. Infertility's most common causes include egg quality/production, blocked tubes, and the male-factor. (1). Problems in egg quality/production are the result of poor egg quality, irregular ovulation or failure to ovulate because of hormonal deficiencies or imbalances. A fourth case is polycystic ovarian syndrome, which is a condition in which a hormonal imbalance prevents the egg-containing follicles on the ovaries from maturing and releasing an egg, instead forming sometimes painful ovarian cysts. These problems, especially deteriorating egg quality, are often age-related, and apply most often to women 37 and older. Possible solutions to poor egg quality/production include use of a donor egg, fertility drugs such as Clomiphene and Bromocriptine, and in vitro fertilization (IVF). (1). Blocked fallopian tubes are often the result of scar tissue, adhesions, and damaged tube ends (fibria). Another common cause is endometriosis, which is the growth of endometrial cells (the tissue that lines the uterus) outside the uterus, most often on the ovaries, Fallopian tubes, or the exterior of the uterus.

Determination of molarity of cell sap in potato tubers Essays

Determination of molarity of cell sap in potato tubers Essays Determination of molarity of cell sap in potato tubers Paper Determination of molarity of cell sap in potato tubers Paper Plant and animal cells are made up of a cell membrane. The plant cells have the cell membrane line in the inside of the cell wall. The cell wall provides the turgidity to the cell. The cell wall is dead and allows all substances to pass freely through it whereas the cell membrane is alive and selective. This is the case also for the cell membrane of the animal cells. The only difference is however that the cell membrane is the only layer around the cell unlike the cell wall that is part of the plant cells. The cell membrane is alive and selective as we know. This means that it is semi-permeable. This is called a semi permeable membrane. Semi permeable means that it is a layer or a surface that allows only certain particles to pass through but not any others. A completely permeable membrane means that it is a membrane that allows any particles to pass through like is the case for the dead cell wall. This cell membrane is a thin layer of cytoplasm and allows the cell to control the products that come through and go out. For example the cell membrane allows only substances like water, glucose and water are allowed to enter and waste products are removed. However the other way round is not possible because the membrane does not allow the wastes to enter and the vital particles to exit. The membrane is very important to organisms. The movement of gas molecules is called diffusion. The diffusion of other substances such as liquids across a semi permeable membrane is called osmosis. The process of osmosis will be studied in detail here. There is another type of movement and it is called active transport. To understand both of these it is important to know what the concentration gradient is. It is also called diffusion gradient because it also applies to gases. Diffusion or concentration gradient shows the molecules or the particles as from less concentrated to more concentrate. This is demonstrated below. A- higher concentration B- molecules moving C- Less concentration From this diagram we can see that there are more molecules on the left and the molecules are moving from section A through the section B and moves to C where there are fewer molecules. This way we can see that the molecules are diffusing through the empty space. The arrow points towards the diffusion gradient. For the active transport it will be the other way which shows it is against the concentration gradient. This shows the movement of particles for gases. The difference for osmosis is that in osmosis there is a semi permeable membrane. This semi permeable membrane has tiny pores that allow only certain products to pass through. Active transport is different from osmosis because osmosis is according to the concentration gradient and active transport is against the concentration gradient. Factors of osmosis Osmosis depends on the concentration and the temperature of the surroundings in which it takes place. The concentration of the solution is very important because then it will be according to the number of molecules in the water. If we take a sugar solution we know that there is sugar dissolved in it but also it is important to know what is the concentration of the solution. The higher the concentration, the more the amount of sugar molecules and so the amount of water is less. Therefore the amount of water that moves towards it will be more. If we take the above diagram and we place the semi permeable membrane in the middle or have a semi permeable membrane full of the solution we will see this change. This is demonstrated below. For the sake of simplicity, the water molecule has been shown as small and monoatomic where its actual formula is H20 and the sugar molecule is also shown bigger so that it is easier to distinguish and its actual formula is C6H12O6. As we can see form the above diagram that the reason that the sugar molecule cannot pass through is that it is too big to fit through the pore. Even if the gap is large enough the sugar molecule passes though very slowly. The arrows in between show the movement of the particles. As we can see that the reason that the water molecules are moving is that there are less water molecules on the left and so the solution is concentrated and the solution on the right is dilute. The solution on the left is more concentrated because the sugar molecules are now hydrated and so have stopped the water molecules from moving freely and thus there are less water molecules present in the solution. This is usually called water of crystallisation. So we can define osmosis as the movement of water molecules from a place of higher concentration to a place of lower concentration. As we will observe the level of water on the right will decrease and the level of water on the left increases until both will be the same. So they will be in balance and proportion. In plants the following occurs so that the plants may take in fresh water and if seawater were added the reverse would happen, the cells would lose water. This we will see later. Osmosis can take place in any solution, whether it is a salt solution or even a sugar solution. The water potential is the measure of whether the solution is likely to gain or lose water and by how much. So it is concluded that pure water has the highest water potential because it has the highest number of free molecules and can diffuse from one solution to the other no matter how concentrated or dilute it may be. This again repeats the fact that the water moves from a high potential to a low potential. Once again it is important that the substance that is added to the water is soluble in water. Osmosis is also used industrially, mainly in the process of agriculture. Sometimes in industry, quite different from agriculture, osmosis may also be used. In this case the tubing would be made of cellulose acetate in sheets or tubes used for dialysis. The size of the pores can be adjusted according to the size of the molecules or the particles of the substances and used accordingly for different purposes. In an animal cell the water is taken by osmosis. The cell swells up and can burst if the extra water is not removed. The tissue fluid does this. The tissue fluid has the same concentration as the cell and so the substances or rather water can pass freely between the cell and the tissue fluid. As we can see form the above representation the cell has expanded and will burst if it does not lose the extra water. That is why the tissue fluid plays an important part. The solution outside is called the hypotonic solution because it has a low concentration of the solute compared to the solution in the inside, which is called the hypertonic solution. As for the solutions between the cytoplasm and the tissue fluid have the same concentration so that they can freely exchange. These solutions are called isotonic solutions. For the plant cells, too the same thing happens. But when the above change takes place, the cells are now turgid and this property is usually used to check the end of the osmosis in experiments and the cells that have lost water by osmosis until they are flaccid, which means that they have wilted or a starting to wilt. This is important for us to know because we will be experimenting about the plant cells when we investigate osmosis. Plant Cells Plant Cells have vacuoles. This makes all the difference to the turgidity. When the plant cell is surrounded by dilute solution then the water will enter the vacuole and enlarge it. The vacuole will become larger and also push against the sides of the cytoplasm. This will stretch the cell. This will happen till a limit because there is the cell wall that does not allow the cell to expand too much. This means that the cell is turgid and is exerting turgor pressure on the walls of the cell. When the water content in the vacuole decreases either due to lack of water or the loss of water due to transpiration, the cells become flaccid. The vacuole becomes smaller. The cells are said to be plasmolysed. The vacuoles have pulled the cytoplasm away from the cell walls and thus allowed the cells to become smaller. As we have already discussed the temperature is an important factor in osmosis. As the temperature increases the rate of osmosis also increase. This is because the when the temperature increases the water molecules move faster from one solution to the other. As we proceed to the experiment, we will see that what other factors are to be kept constant and what changes occur during the procedure of the experiment. Osmosis is important in nature. Osmosis is important in every living creature because it controls the distribution of water and nutrients. Osmosis occurs only when there is a semi permeable membrane so it keeps waste products out of the cell and provides the cell with the substances required in appropriate amounts. If there were no osmosis, red blood cells would get filled with water and burst just like a balloon. This is called hemolysis. Salty water can cause the tissues to dehydrate and osmosis may prevent this. This is because it is a salty solution. Osmosis maintains the regularity of concentration in the cells of the living organisms. Even so in plants osmosis helps to maintain the balance of water and the turgidity. Without this plants would wilt and die. The same for humans. If there were too much or too little water in cells, we may also die but osmosis prevents this. In plants this process is partially responsible for drawing water up to the stems where it can be used for respiration. Then again if the water in the soil is salty or has too much fertiliser in it, it can be harmful for the plants because the solution is then hypertonic.

Top Tips for Succeeding in Statistics Class

Top Tips for Succeeding in Statistics Class Sometimes statistics and mathematics classes can seem among the hardest that one takes at college. How can you do well in a class like this? Below are some hints and ideas to try so that you can do well in your statistics and mathematics courses. The tips are arranged by things that you can do in class and things that will help outside of class. While in Class Be prepared. Bring paper for notes/quizzes/tests, two writing implements, a calculator, and your textbook.Be attentive. Your primary focus should be whats going on in class, not your cell phone or Facebook newsfeed.Take careful and complete notes. If your instructor thinks that something is important enough to write on the board, it should be written in your notes. The examples that are given will help you when you study and work problems on your own.Write the date and section covered in your notes at the beginning of each class. This will help when you study for tests.Be respectful of your classmates time and ask questions that are pertinent to the material being covered. (e.g. Why is the number of degrees of freedom one less than the sample size?) Save questions that pertain only to you (e.g. Why did I get 2 points taken off for problem number 4?) for your instructors office hours or after class.Dont feel the need to cram as much as possible on a page of notes. Leave plenty of room so that you can write your own comments when you use your notes to study. When test/quiz/assignment due dates are announced, immediately write them in your notes or what you use as a calendar. Outside of Class Math is not a spectators sport. You need to practice, practice, practice by working out problems in the homework assignments.Plan on spending at least two hours studying and/or doing problems for every 50-minute class session.Read your textbook. Constantly review what has been covered and read ahead to prepare yourself for class.Get in the habit of consistently doing work for your courses.Dont procrastinate. Start studying for your tests around a week in advance.Spread out work for large assignments. If you have difficulties early on you can get help more quickly than if you wait until the night before.Utilize office hours. If your schedule doesnt match your instructors office hours, ask if it is possible to make an appointment for a different time. When you come to office hours, be ready with specific questions about what you had trouble with or didnt understand.Utilize any tutoring services that your college or university provides. Sometimes these services are offered at no cost to students. Review your notes constantly. Form study groups or get a study partner in each of your classes. Meet to go over questions, work on homework, and study for tests.Dont lose the syllabus or any other handouts. Hold onto them until after you get your final grades. If you lose the syllabus, go to the course webpage to get a replacement. If you get stuck on a problem and dont make progress on it after 15 minutes, call your study partner and continue working on the rest of the assignment.take responsibility. If you know you will miss a test for any reason, let your instructor know as soon as possible.Purchase the textbook. If you have an older edition of the book, it is your responsibility - not your instructors - to see what that the sections/page numbers mentioned in class correspond within your book.If you are a statistics or math major, strongly consider keeping your textbooks and dont sell them back. Your statistics book will be a convenient reference.

Describe the development of India's financial sector over the last Essay

Describe the development of India's financial sector over the last decade. Support your claims with as much as data possible - Essay Example n India 2003-04, talks about the appropriate timing of the entry of foreign banks into India so as to be co-terminus with the transition to greater capital account convertibility (Thankur, 1990). This shows that the economic policy establishment in India, including the RBI, has not drawn adequate lessons from the experiences of the financial crisis-affected countries. Besides, banks are the principal risk carriers in the system, taking in small deposits that are liquid and making relatively large investments that are illiquid and can be characterised by substantial income and capital risk. The observed tendency among some promoters or boards of banks to divert a substantial share of its deposits into speculative activities in which the promoter or board may be interested or into investments that are risky but promise quick returns, can increase financial fragility, lead to bank failures and if the magnitude of the failure is serious enough, can actually precipitate crisis for the entire financial system (Thankur, 1990). Instances in India such as the Nedungadi Bank and the Global Trust Bank are the harbingers of what may follow if reckless deregulation of the banking sector is carried out. In fact, the experience of recurrent financial crises in the 1990s, most famously the East Asian experience, has shown how banking deregulation along with capital market liberalization often serves as recipes for financial turmoil in developing countries (Desai, 1987). Many guidelines have stated among other things that no single entity or group of related entities would be allowed to hold shares or exercise control, directly or indirectly, in any private sector bank in excess of 10 % of its paid-up capital. Recognising that the 5th March notification by the Union Government had hiked foreign investment limits in private banking to 74%, the guidelines sought to define the ceiling as applicable on aggregate foreign investment in private banks from all sources (FDI, Foreign

Dell Computer Make to Order (MTO), Make to Stock (MTS) & Assemble to Assignment

Dell Computer Make to Order (MTO), Make to Stock (MTS) & Assemble to Order (ATO) - Assignment Example The researcher states that the Make to Order process maintains quality and the products can be personalized during manufacturing and delivery that creates value for customers. This process has no finished goods inventory. The make to order has a disadvantage since it has intermittent production. Dell Company can benefit from MTO process due to reduced inventory space and can customize their products. From a tax, related standpoint Dell Company may benefit from the process. In terms of customization, Dell Company can customize their products with materials, size, and color. The Company may benefit economically from the process since assembled goods must have more warehouse space. Delaying assembly until a customer makes an order reduces labor cost for the company before payment. However, the company may experience delays since products take longer to produce and deliver. Customers may opt to make orders from other companies that offer quicker deliver products. Assemble to Order is a pr ocess that involves making a part and sub-assembling the products. The process is completed when a customer makes an order. It is a business strategy in production that produces quickly and customized in certain ways. It requires that basic parts are manufactured but not assembled. When an order is placed, the parts are assembled and sent to the recipient. The process has its own advantages in the sense that it has fewer inventories and the service is faster. Its main disadvantage for Dell Company is that it has WIP inventory. This process is appropriate for a computer industry Dell company can benefit from this when large numbers of sub-assemblies are put together. For example, assembling the motherboard, video cards, fans, and battery power are put in one location and the final assembly of the laptop is made easier when an order is made. It enables Dell Company to push inventory back that makes it possible to receive payments for the hardware before other parts are paid for.

Struggles Over Access To Alcohol Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Struggles Over Access To Alcohol - Essay Example The struggle for gender equality and the participation of women in pub labor has continued up to date. Several pubs in Australia have both male and female patrons. Several Australian women start drinking as young adults, which has exposed them to various forms of youth violence. The presence of women in pubs is a common occurrence, which has led to increased risks associated with binge drinking and intoxication. However, the physical separation of male and female bar areas does not exist and young women drink in the company of men. Women patronizing pubs are victims of binge drinking of different types of alcohol such as spirits and beer. Adult Australian women still attend dance clubs and participate in occasional drinking. Majority of these women consume-full strength beer, which was part of the traditional drinking pattern of the Australian culture. In conclusion, Australia faced gender inequality in the provision of labor during the nineteenth century. Men and women had tradition ally predefined roles in the society. The changing economy and the world war led to a shift in the labor market in the country. Women began participating in labor activities dominated by men. This involved participating in the public space such as pub attendants. Several women became barmaids, a position previously reserved for men. The changing social responsibilities and trends demanded financial freedom among women. This trend has continued to the present time where pubs are patronized by women.

A milimeter too far Essay -- Medical Research

A millimetre too far: Discuss metastatic melanoma (skin cancer) with particular reference to the genes involve. Introduction In 2008 11,767 new cases of malignant melanoma was reported in the UK (UK, 2011) . Melanoma involves melanocytes of the skin which have a role in protecting the deeper layers of the skin from UV light emitted from the sun. Metastatic melanoma occurs when a primary tumour travels into the bloodstream and spreads to other body parts i.e. liver or lymph nodes. The survival rate for people with metastatic melanoma decreases the later the diagnosis and the bigger the spread (metastasis) of the cancer. Scientists have therefore investigated ways in which treatment for melanoma can be improved by diagnostic markers and by targeting the genes involved in the development of melanocytes; also the genes involved in uncontrolled proliferation as seen in metastatic melanoma. BRAFV600E Mutation of BRAF gene (a member of the RAF family of serine-theronine kinase (Gorden et al., 2003) has led to countless research on therapeutic treatments that target BRAF gene and inhibit its expression. Before melanoma gets to the metastatic stages there are a series of somatic mutations in melanocyte genes that leads to the transition from radial growth phase to vertical growth phase (Tan, 2012). Over activation of BRAF gene (somatic mutation) in melanoma leads to the uncontrolled proliferation and survival of melanoma cells via activation of the RAS/RAF/MAPK pathway (Gorden et al., 2003); the attachment of BRAF to RAS proteins activates the MAPK pathway involved in melanoma proliferation and the regulation of genes involved in the metastatic cascade. Recent studies showed that 92% of melanoma samples had a substitution (l... ...M., Elder, D. E., Hsu, M. Y., & Herlyn, M. (1994).
